T. Freeland Mason Jr.

RICHMOND—Thomas Freeland Mason Jr. of Westminster Canterbury Richmond died February 5, 2019.

Born in Colonial Beach on April 26, 1924, to Thomas Freeland Mason and Adelaide Billingsley van Laer, he was graduated from Christchurch School and Virginia Tech.

He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. For many years he was in real estate, insurance and appraisals in Warrenton.

He was the 1959 Outstanding National Chairman of the U. S. Jaycees. In 1979, Mr. Mason was Fauquier County Realtor of the Year. He served on the Warrenton Town Council and was president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Warrenton Rotary. He was a member of the executive board of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.

Mr. Mason retired to Kilmarnock, where he enjoyed catching fish and crabs. He was active in the Virginia Waterman’s Association and affiliated with the Kairos Prison Ministry.

He is survived by children, Thomas Mason, Hardy Mason and Dee Mason; grandchildren Renee Van Sickle, Jeremy Mason and Nicole Mason; and great-granddaughter Alethea Mason.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 23, at Church of the Epiphany, 8000 Hermitage Road, Richmond. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 9415 Kings Highway, King George. The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, at Church of the Epiphany.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Christchurch School would be appreciated.
