TOPPING—A crash victim was airlifted to a hospital following a three-vehicle crash on Greys Point Road in Topping on Saturday night, reported First Sgt. J.A. Teagle of the Virginia State Police Gloucester office.
According to the crash report, about 9:34 p.m. Dominae L. Ivery, 18, of Church View in upper Middlesex County, was traveling south on Greys Point Road and attempted to pass a car in a no-passing zone and crossed over the double yellow line in the curve at the Pilot House Inn restaurant.
Ivery’s Hyundai Elantra collided head on with a Ford Fusion driven by Travis O. Turner, 38, of Farnham, who was traveling north towards the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge.
After the initial impact, Ivery’s car hit a Toyota Highlander, which was the vehicle she was attempting to pass. Ivery’s car then overturned with her and a teen passenger inside.
The Highlander was driven by Ryan F. Trunkey of Raleigh, N.C. He was not injured seriously. There were no passengers in his vehicle.
Four persons were transported to hospitals. The most seriously injured driver was airlifted by helicopter. Another driver, who also was injured seriously, and a passenger were transported by ambulance to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester.
Another passenger was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
The crash occurred on Greys Point Road about 260 feet north of Locklies Creek Road.
Speed appears to be a factor in the crash.
Charges were pending at press time.
Trooper J.W. Krom investigated the crash.
