Todd Rowe Cockrell

Todd Rowe Cockrell

VIRGINIA BEACH—Todd, as everyone knew her, passed from this world on September 20, 2022. Born in Heathsville, November 30, 1927, Miss Todd, was one of the “village kids,” growing up in a kind and loving family at Rowes Landing.

She was predeceased by her parents, Maurice and Helen Swann Rowe; her sister, Katharine; and brother, Spear. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Ernest Richard “Dick” Cockrell; and is survived by her daughter, Susan Cockrell and her son in law, John Mulholland Sr.; and her nephews, David (Marion) Rowe, Ed (Jayme) Cockrell and nieces, Katharine Laine Rowe (JR) Bowen, Diane Luttrell and Natalie (Harry) Norris and their extended families.

Miss Todd attended Mary Washington College, married and left the Northern Neck in 1953 to move to Princess Anne County, now Virginia Beach, with Dick. She was an elementary school teacher for many years and a surrogate mother to many. She loved all animals whether domesticated or wild (with the exception of snakes) and was often called an animal whisperer by those who saw her caring and nurturing side.

She was an involved member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Virginia Beach for over 50 years loving “her little church family” as she would say and attended church regularly until COVID-19 arrived. The common theme was always a love for people and to be kind in all that you do. She never lost her love for the Neck and the Coan River.

Visitation services were held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, September 26, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 27 at Providence Baptist Church in Heathsville. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 8, at St. John’s Baptist Church on Saturday, October 8 at 1 p.m..

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either of the following:

Friends of Northumberland County Animal Shelter, PO Box 603, Burgess, VA 22432. Make checks payable to FNCAS,

St. John’s Baptist Church Building Fund, 2300 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.

Her family is grateful to Loving Care Services in Virginia Beach and to Riverside Sanders Heron Cove for their care of her in her later years.

Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
