Burns Night

event canceled

The Kilmarnock & District Pipe Band has canceled its annual Burns Night event normally held at the end of January.

Because of event restrictions, rising infection numbers, and the desire to maintain safety for patrons and band members, the band made its decision based on current health recommendations.

Gardening seminar

The Northern Neck Master Gardeners (NNMG) recently announced the Gardening in the Northern Neck seminar (GNN) will be conducted virtually March 20. The theme of the seminar is “Be Intentional: Create Livable, Edible, Sustainable Garden Spaces.”

The fee for the virtual seminar is $25. Registration forms will be available on February 1 at www.nnmg.org.

Oyster roast postponed

The Mary Ball Washington Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge oyster roast, initially scheduled for January 24, has been postponed due to the governor’s directive regarding COVID-19 restrictions. Rescheduling is dependent on the lifting of these restrictions.

Tides of Joy

Susan Anthony-Tolbert’s newest release, “Rappahannock River Christmas: Tides of Joy and Peace for My Harp” celebrates the season, the river and its history. Proceeds will benefit the Northumberland County Historical Society and at the Lancaster Virginia Historical Society.

The CD is available for purchase at the Northumberland County Historical Society in Heathsville, 580-8581, and at the Lancaster Virginia Historical Society in Lancaster, 462-7280. Due to the pandemic, please call for gift shop hours.

Virtual history

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society’s “Zooming In On Lancaster County History: Thursdays at 3:00” virtual speaker series will continue at 3 p.m. today, January 7. Lois Williams will present “The Lees of White Stone.”

The series is free for members and $5 for others. Register at www.mkt.com/maryball or 462-7280. A valid email address is required.

Wine Down

Good Luck Cellers, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock, recently announced Friday Night Wine Downs will continue in January outdoors on the covered North Porch with heaters and adjacent green space with fire pits.

The Wine Downs, from 4-6 p.m., will feature music by Bob Wilson.

The Grace Church Yard Sale offers online sales and “by appointment” browsing opportunities at the warehouse behind the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 401 South Main Street, Kilmarnock. To see photographs and pricing, visit the Grace Church Facebook page.
