Cart parade

The Reedville Fishermen’s Museum will host a golf cart parade today, July 3, from Festival Halle, 177 Main Street, to the waterfront, then back up Main to the Bethany United Methodist Church parking lot, 454 Main Street.

Line up from 4:45-5 p.m. and receive a number. The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. The entry fee is $10. Register at www.rfmuseum.org or on parade day.

Heritage concert

Ampersand will present “Music in the New Nation: Popular Songs & Tunes during America’s Founding Years,” from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight, July 3, at  Lebanon Baptist Church, 20 Alfonso Road, Lancaster. 

Admission is $10 at the door. Families are welcome, children younger than 14 will be admitted free with an adult. 

Pavilion party

The Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, 504 Main Street, Reedville, will host a pavilion party from 6-9 p.m. today, July 3. There will music by DJ Russ and the museum will sell food and beverages.

Fireworks

An Independence Day fireworks show will start close to dark on Friday, July 4, near the Morris-Fisher stack. View the display from land or Cockrell Creek.

Parade time

The Town of Irvington will hold its annual 4th of July Hometown Parade at 11 a.m. Friday, July 4, along King Carter Drive, Irvington.

Independence celebration

The Reedville Independence celebration will be held Saturday, July 5. Festivities will begin with the Firecracker 5K run/walk at 8 a.m. (see Sports Short). From 10 a.m.-noon, there will be free activities and snacks for children at the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, 504 Main Street, Reedville,

At 3 p.m., the annual parade sponsored by the Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department will set in motion along Main Street. The parade will line up at Roseland Cemetery. Expect floats, fire and rescue apparatus and antique tractors. Entry is free.

Bluegrass jam

Bluegrass and classic country music will be featured at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the Urbanna Firehouse, 335 Virginia Street, Urbanna. Donations are appreciated for the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

Patriotic concert

The Reedville Festival Chorale invites everyone to join them at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 454 Main Street, Reedville, to celebrate America’s birthday in song.

Admission is by donation. Bring canned food donations as well for the Healthy Harvest Food Bank.

Crafting marathon

Girl Scout Troop 700 will host a Scrapbook & Crafting Marathon from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 7 and 8 at Tibitha Church of God, 991 Fleeton Road, Reedville.

The fee will be or $25 per day, or $40 for both, including crafting table, snacks and drinks. Call or text 453-0560 to register.

Bluegrass concert

Rappahannock Crossing will return to the Music by the River Stage from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster. The quintet is known for its variety of traditional and contemporary bluegrass, original tunes and even a rock ’n roll or country song for good measure.

A $5 parking fee is payable at the gate. Picnics are encouraged. A limited number of picnic tables will be available. Bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Family Fun Day

The Friends of Northumberland County Animal Shelter will sponsor a Family Fun Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 12 at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. Please leave furry friends at home, adoptable animals are eager to meet everyone.

Activities will include a free bounce house, face painting with a minimum $5 donation, a scavenger hunt with prizes and raffles. Snow cones, hot dogs and popcorn will be available for purchase.

First African Day

First African Day will be observed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. July 26 at Stratford Hall Preserve, 483 Great House Road, Stratford.

The celebration will include dance performances, culinary demonstrations, music, art, tours, storytellers and at 3 p.m., a presentation by 2025 Pulitzer Prize winner Dr. Edda L. Fields-Black.
