Thanksgiving dinners
Donna’s on Main, 37 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, for the third year, with the help of Lancaster Union #88 A.F. & A.M. members at the wheels, on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, will deliver to and serve at Donna’s on Main, a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings.

Angel Tree
The Rivah’s “Local Angel Tree Project” is underway. The public is urged to pick up an angel in need from The Rivah, 49 South Main Street, Kilmarnock. Each name on the Angel Tree will have a list of needed or desired items.
Items can then be delivered to The Rivah by December 18. Use gift bags and attach the angel from the tree onto the bag for ease of delivering. Commonly needed items include snacks, blankets, socks, gloves, hats, scarves, toiletries, washcloths, toys, soccer ball, basketball, clothing, shoes and coats.
Holly and The Ivy
Historic Christ Church & Museum, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, will host the “Holly & The Ivy” at 3:30 p.m. Monday, December 2.
lluminate Irvington
The third annual Illuminate Irvington, tree lighting will be held at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, December 5, at Irvington United Methodist Church, 26 King Carter Drive, Irvington. Activities on the Irvington Commons, 98 King Carter Drive, Irvington, will immediately follow.
Activities will include a visit by Santa and Toys for Tots, children’s raffles, games and face painting. Free hot dogs and cider will be available. The event will conclude with a decorated golf cart parade down King Carter Drive.
Christmas Joy
The Chesapeake Chorale will present its 27th concert season of “Christmas Joy” December 6-8. Concerts are slated at 8 p.m. December 6 at Northumberland High School, 201 Academic Lane, Claraville; 8 p.m. December 7 at Lancaster Elementary School, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock; and 3 p.m. December 8 at St. Clare Walker Middle School, 6814 General Puller Highway, Locust Hill.
Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at Chesapeake Bank and Pearl Boutique in Kilmarnock, Country Cottage in White Stone, from chorale members and at the door at each concert venue.
Children’s shopping
Golden Village Christmas will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. December 7 at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville. This event offers gift shopping, decorative greenery, a bake sale, visits with Santa (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) and caroling.
Children have their own shopping area. For $2 a gift, Tavern “elves” help kids ages 4-11 select and wrap gifts. Call 580-3377 to make an appointment for children or grandchildren to shop.
History talk
Sawyer Hutson, of Ocean Products Research Inc., will speak at 7 p.m. December 6 at the Mathews Museum, 200 Main Street, Mathews. He will present details of the company’s 60-year history and role in the community as well as nationally.
Oysters & Oldies
The St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church 17th annual Oysters & Oldies Christmas oyster roast will be held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. December 7 at Roanoke Farm, 6108 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.
Tickets are $45 and available at ststephensheathsville.org/oyster-roast or the St. Stephen’s Thrift Shop, 6852 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.
Village Christmas
The Village of Weems will have its annual Christmas parade at 4:30 p.m. December 7 starting at the end of Weems Road.
The parade will be followed by a come as you are Nativity pageant at Campbell Memorial Church and a potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m.
Christmas Town
Palestine Lodge #100, Good Luck Road, Kilmarnock, will host Christmas Town at 3 p.m. December 8. The event will feature photos with Santa and The Grinch, music, games, toys and refreshments.
History program
Artist and museum curator David Jett will present “A Tea Box and a Revolver” at 2:30 p.m. December 8 at the Northumberland County Historical Society (NCHS) at the Ball Memorial Library and Museum, 86 Back Street, Heathsville. Light refreshments will be available.
Holiday Tea
A Holiday Tea to benefit the Northern Neck Partners for Pets (NNPP) will be held at 3 p.m. December 11 at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville.
Tickets are $30 each, and $15 for ages 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at PRIMIS Bank, 6941 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, and When Ordinary Won’t Do, 76 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.
Chicken dinners
Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.
Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.
Christmas show
The Kilmarnock Museum recently announced a bus trip to the Old Dominion Barn Dance Christmas Show on December 14 to see Wilson Fairchild and Hunter Owens. A chartered coach will depart from Chesapeake Commons in Kilmarnock at 11:30 a.m. and return by 10 p.m. A nonrefundable $135 fee includes roundtrip fare, seats to the show and snacks on the bus.
The bus will stop for dinner on the return trip at Nick’s Spaghetti and Steak House in Shacklefords. Dinner is not included in the fee. To reserve a seat, call Mary Brent, 238-8738, or Ashburn, 296-0930. Cash or checks payable to Kilmarnock Museum is expected at time of booking.
