Well concerns, bike trails and grant funding occupy Kilmarnock Town Council

KILMARNOCK—The well on Hawthorne Avenue will be replaced sometime this year following council’s related approval of a $930,500 bid at the Thursday, January 29, meeting.

According to town manager Susan Cockrell, the well on Hawthorne Avenue is a vintage 1995 well that has worked just fine but needs replacement due to age to be conducive with the Department of Environmental Quality standards.

The replacement well will be at the same site and will utilize the same wellhouse pumps and piping.

Cockrell noted the lowest bid for the project came in at $930,500 from Sydnor Hydro Inc.

Funding for the project will be sourced through a combination of current year funds, short-term debt financing and any available federal or state grants and loans that may be acquired, she said.
