Wesley “Mack” Jones III

Wesley “Mack” Jones III

WHITE STONE—Wesley McAden “Mack” Jones III passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at his home in White Stone, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Mack was born on July 6, 1955, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to Wesley McAden “Wes” Jones Jr. and Barbara Fulcher Jones. He was married to Esther Brent Jones and had one son, Wesley McAden “Mackie” Jones IV.

Mack grew up in Weems. He attended Christchurch School and graduated from Lancaster High School. From early childhood Mack had a love for hunting, fishing and sports. As a member of the first little league football team in Lancaster County, the “Ospreys,” coached by his dad, Wes Jones, and close friend Jeb Bouis, he learned the meaning of team work and perseverance. Mack continued to play football and baseball through high school. He grew up and worked in his family’s business until he married in 1977. He then worked on the water for Zapata Haynie and several snapper rig boats before becoming self-employed in 1984. Mack was a builder and carpenter in Lancaster County for almost 40 years until he was no longer able to work in 2022.

Mack was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved all things outdoors. He was a knowledgeable and excellent outdoorsman, and mentor to many young anglers and hunters. He was a proud and kind-hearted man, who loved his family and valued his true lifelong friendships. Mack was a wonderful cook and believed that you always cook what you hunt and fish for.

Mack is survived by his wife of 47 years, Esther Brent Jones, and son, Wesley McAden “Mackie” Jones IV; a brother, Robert Norman “Robby” Jones; sister, Edith “Edie” Jones Jett (David L. Nova), and beloved nephew Robert Paul Jett III; an aunt, Janice M. Fulcher and family Cathy, Randy and Gray; uncle, Norman “Buster” Fulcher and family Wendy, Leslie and Tammy, all of North Carolina.

He is preceded in death by his parents Wesley M. Jones, Jr. and Barbara F. Jones.

In addition to his immediate family, Mack leaves behind several very close and lifetime friends, Mike Bouis, Mark Allen and Rawleigh Simmons. He also leaves behind his faithful companion “Bear.” All that knew Mack in recent years, know Bear!

Mack’s family wishes to thank the many friends and distant family that came to be by his side in his final days. The love and support from all will never be forgotten.

A special thank-you to the Riverside Hospice of the Northern Neck team for the love shown to the Jones family, and the support and unwavering care of Mack over the last three weeks.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Mack’s Life will be held on July 6. An announcement will be made with location and time.

Memorial donations can be made to Riverside Hospice, American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.

Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
