White Stone appoints interim mayor, sets proposed $453,425 budget for adoption

WHITE STONE—There has been a mayoral succession in White Stone.

Following his recent appointment by the General Assembly to serve as judge in the 15th Judicial District, the Hon. William B. Hubbard announced his official resignation as mayor of White Stone on Thursday, June 4. His resignation took effect on Monday, June 8, and his six-year term with the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will begin on July 1.

Deputy mayor Irving Brittingham will serve as the interim mayor until the November elections. He has already announced his candidacy. Ran Reeves made the motion for Brittingham to serve temporarily. Kathryn “Scotty” Roop made the second. The motion passed, 4-0, with Reeves, Roop, AnnGardner Eubank and Charles Brocklebank voting in support. Brittingham did not vote. James Smith and Tad Pittman were absent.

With Brittingham moving into his new role, Brocklebank made a motion to name Roop as the new deputy mayor. Eubank made the second and the motion passed, 4-0. Roop did not vote.

In his address to council, Hubbard reflected on his family’s public service to the town. His grandfather, Lloyd B. Hubbard Sr. and his father Lloyd B. Hubbard Jr. both served as mayors
