
The Northern Neck Family YMCA recently completed “Safety Around Water” classes for all Lancaster County Public School second graders.
For two consecutive weeks, students arrived daily at the YMCA pool in Kilmarnock, first learning rules for water safety and then getting into the pool for swim lessons. Volunteers are essential for providing extra support for the students as they become confident in the water.
Northern Neck Family YMCA board member Mario Williams volunteered each day for two weeks. Williams learned to swim as an adult at the YMCA and now he is providing essential lessons to children.
