YPRCC begins fall racing series under threatening skies

August 12 began with typically humid weather and a forecast of late day showers and thunderstorms. This was an ominous forecast as the Yankee Point Racing and Cruising Club (YPRCC) was set to begin the first of the fall series races. The weather had been threatening since noon, but at 3 p.m. the skies looked as if they would provide a fun afternoon for the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF).

The barometer was falling but not precipitously, so fleet captain Anker Madsen continued to hold fast to his feelings that the first pandemic race of 2020 could be held. As the skies darkened, the start sequence began and with the warning horn blast still echoing, the five-minute start ticked down to the long blast for the start…
