Brenda Sylvia awarded top prize in 65th annual Labor Day Art Show

Winners in the 65th annual Labor Day Art Show were announced during a reception and awards ceremony Friday, September 4 at the RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Steve Prince, an accomplished artist, workshop conductor and experimental art program designer, judged the show. He is the director of engagement and distinguished artist in residence at the Muscarelle Museum of Art at William and Mary University.

Prince selected 27 works from the 144 listed works to receive ribbons and cash prizes. For the Best in Show Award, Steve selected “Tree Time,” an acrylic painting by Brenda Sylvia. The painting “is a masterful creation that deftly and harmoniously blends a color scheme that appears to be otherworldly and full of life showing the transition of seasons,” he said.

Prince selected Bobby Wiltshire’s painting, “Fishin’ Frenzy,” for the Anne Hayes Memorial Award for Excellence in Watercolor. “It is a masterfully painted artwork that reveals a sensitive control of media, strong compositional skills and a careful blending of colors,” he said…..
