IRVINGTON—After years of efforts to control speeding throughout town, the Irvington Town Council is taking another step to eradicate the problem. On March 9, the members unanimously decided to hire a part-time deputy to patrol the town.
Mayor Julie Harris reported she had met with Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie, town attorney Andrew McRoberts and two county deputies in late February to discuss related costs and procedures.
Off-duty deputies will be paid $40 an hour and will start with a minimum of four hours per week, said Harris. The county is prepared to sell the town a used patrol car for $500 equipped with ready-to-use radar. The town will need….
