Northumberland planners set hearings on solar and battery storage ordinances

HEATHSVILLE—After seeking advice from the Virginia Department of Energy and a few months of reworking, the Northumberland planning commission on Thursday, June 15, completed its work on proposed revisions to the solar ordinance. 

The commission then scheduled a related public hearing for July 20. Also on July 20, the commission will hold a public hearing on a battery storage facility ordinance. Both hearings were approved, 5-0, by commission members Chris Cralle, Vivian Diggs, Garfield Parker, Alfred Fisher Jr. and Charles Williams. Edwin King, Patrick O’Brien, Roger McKinley and Heidi Wilkins-Corey were absent.

The commission suggested removing the 25 kilowatt (kW) limit in the definition of small solar energy facilities, and added that any request over 25kW would require….
