Public reading of the Declaration of Independence slated for July 3

The community reading of the Declaration of Independence has become an annual observance at Historic Christ Church.

The Foundation for Historic Christ Church (FHCC) with the Cobbs Hall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Richard Henry Lee Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) invite the community to a public reading of the Declaration of Independence Wednesday, July 3, inside Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems.

The event, beginning at 4 p.m., will celebrate the 248th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with patriotic songs for the audience to sing, a brief history of the document and a public reading performed by various members of the community, reported FHCC executive director Robert Teagle.

“We invite the community to join us for this patriotic celebration of one of our country’s founding documents,” Teagle said. “With its own rich history and superb acoustics, Christ Church (1735) is the perfect setting….
