Lancaster is ranked 10th in state in gains

Lancaster County Public Schools (LCPS) has reason to celebrate, according to Anna Kellum, director of achievement and accountability.

Following the release of the 2023-24 state Standards of Learning (SOL) scores, Lancaster is ranked 10th of 132 public school divisions in the Commonwealth in terms of overall student achievement gains, with a 4.93% increase in SOL scores. That number also reflects an overall 13.85% gain in SOL scores at Lancaster High School, ranked 13th in the state.

“That is a drastic improvement,” said Kellum. “Mike Myers and his staff have targeted instruction. They go above and beyond for their students. I’m really proud of all of our teachers and staff at both schools that have worked so hard to make these improvements happen.”

According to the Virginia Department of Education website, the LHS math, science and English-reading test scores improved in 2023-24.
