Lancaster school board adopts pre-Labor Day opening, offers first glance at proposed budget

KILMARNOCK—The Lancaster school board on February 11 adopted a new 2020-2021 calendar that sets the opening day of classes on August 24, prior to Labor Day.

The calendar was adopted by a 3-0 vote. Kenya Moody, Carolyn Young and Cindy Clarke voted in favor of the measure, Katherine Keith was absent and school board chairman Joan Gravatt did not vote.

The schools will observe a Labor Day break September 4-7. The last day of school will be May 28, with graduation tentatively scheduled for May 22.

Superintendent Dan Russell also presented a draft operating budget for fiscal year 2020-21.
