LHS harriers run solid races at state cross country meet

Lancaster High School junior Hailey Smith equaled her 2019 state performance by finishing fourth in the Class 1 girls cross country meet at Green Hill Park in Salem last Friday.

Smith finished fourth out of a field of 62 runners in the girls race. She ran the 3.1-mile course in 20:52.

Morgan Dalton of George Wythe High School was the individual medalist, winning the state race in 19:56.2 and leading her team to the state championship with a team low score of 44 points. George Wythe had four of its five scorers finish among the top 10.

Auburn was the state runner-up with a score of 62 points; Galileo was third with 67 points. Region A’s Mathews finished fifth out of the eight teams with 136 points and West Point was seventh with 151 points. 

Smith claimed her third consecutive….
