LANCASTER—Madeline Taft Coates, 84, of Lancaster passed away on February 9, 2019, with her loving family by her side.
Madeline was born to the late John Thomas and Daisy Pittman Taft.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley C. Bailey (Jack) of Lancaster; son, Louis Coates (Patricia) of Caroline; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She also is survived by two sisters, Vera Taft Harding and Rebecca T. Lewis Conrad.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. “Slim” Coates Jr.; daughter, Sandra Darlene Coates and great-grandson, Trevor Smith. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Lloyd Oldham Taft and John Wesley Taft; and one sister, Ethel Taft Dilday. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Lively.
