The Lancaster High School varsity boys soccer team got in two scrimmages last week before the mandatory hiatus of the spring sports season.
Bruton and Mathews both beat the Red Devils, 5-4, in preseason action, but LHS coach Rob Pittman has no complaints.
“Even before the games, I told them these results don’t matter,” he said. “It’s about keeping our positions, passing the ball and building trust about what’s going to happen with that pass.”
Pittman’s young team includes seven freshmen, three sophomores, five juniors and two seniors. Back to anchor the midfield is senior college recruit Henry Smith, who is being sought by several Division II schools. Smith has spent the off season traveling the country as part of the national showcase…
