Reedville independence celebration due July 6

There’s more than just fireworks planned in Reedville to celebrate the nation’s independence.

Reedville Fishermen’s Museum director Lee Langston-Harrison said the festivities will start Saturday, July 6, with the annual Firecracker 5K Run/Walk. Registration will open at 6:45 a.m. and the race will begin at 8 a.m. at Festival Halle, 177 Main Street, Reedville. To register, visit rfmuseum.org.

From 10 a.m.-noon, there will be events especially for kids, with a pie eating contest, a fire truck hose-down, face painting and sack races in the museum area, 504 Main Street, Reedville. There will be food, and with hot dogs, ice cream and a bake sale, there is plenty for attendees to choose from, according to Langston-Harrison.
