Chicken dinners

Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.

Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.

History trail

The Northern Neck Hidden History Trail will hold two official launch ceremonies on March 9. Ceremonies will take place from 10 a.m.-noon at Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, and from 3-5 p.m. at Stratford Hall, 483 Great House Road, Stratford. The Northern Neck Hidden History Trail may be accessed at www.nnkhiddenhistorytrail.org.

A program of MACorp Inc., The Northern Neck Hidden History Trail tells the story of this historic area through the lenses of people of color to reveal a more comprehensive and inclusive historic picture. Additionally, the Trail actively expands existing historical narratives with comprehensive and inclusive presentations that reveal the impact and the significant contributions of people of color and collaborative efforts. These stories are all encompassing as reported from AfricanAmericans, Native Americans and European Americans.

Take-out BBQ

Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville, will hold a Take-out BBQ Dinner fundraiser from 4-6 p.m. March 10. The menu will include pulled pork barbecue, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, bun and brownies.

Tickets must be bought in advance. The fee is $25. Pay in advance via Paypal at the www.RHHTFoundationinc.org, or at the Tavern Gift Shoppe.

Flea market

Northern Neck Partners for Pets will conduct a vintage Flea Market from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 16 at the Fricke Pavilion, 790 Devils Bottom Road, Lancaster. Proceeds will support a no kill animal shelter.

Multiple vendors will offer vintage treasures, antiques, furniture, jewelry and birdhouses. 50/50 raffles will be held throughout the day for gift certificates. Market entry is by donation.

On Stage

The Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts 2023-24 season will continue March 16 with a Celtic Celebration by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.

RCA concert

The Rappahannock Concert Association (RCA) 2024 Spring season will continue March 16 with the Tamburitzans, a multicultural song and dance company. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Northumberland County School Complex, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville.

Author talk

Mystery writer S.A. Cosby will be featured at an author talk at 3 p.m. March 23 at the Essex High School Auditorium, 833 High School Circle, Tappahannock. Essex Public Library will sponsor the presentation by Cosby. He will speak about his life and work, followed by a question and answer session and a book signing.

The event will be free. Copies of the books will be available for purchase at the book signing.

Chamber series

The Northern Neck Orchestra (NNO) 2023-24 Chamber Music Series will feature Quartets for Voice and Strings at 2 p.m. April 14 at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock.

Admission is by season subscription, or $35. Tickets may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or at the check-in desk. Students are admitted free.
